Gruene has become a top Texas Hill Country wedding destination for a specific reason: you can put your ceremony on the Guadalupe River, your reception in a historic barn or covered pavilion, and your after-party at Gruene Hall, all within a half-mile. Guest lodging is plentiful between vacation rentals, bed and breakfasts, and the Gruene River Inn. Below are five venues we see couples book most often, ranked by the kind of wedding they're best for. Most require a booking 12 to 18 months out for peak Saturday dates in spring and fall. If you're lodging a larger wedding party, we run four rentals a short drive from every venue on this list.
Chandelier of Gruene
A 12-acre property on the Guadalupe River with a white chapel, a restored barn reception hall, and river-overlook ceremony spots. Capacity sits around 250 guests seated. The signature look is string-lit live oaks over the outdoor reception area, which is the photo most couples end up using on their save-the-dates.
Packages bundle the ceremony site, reception hall, and bridal and groom suites. Preferred vendors are available but the venue doesn't require them. Catering is flexible, which matters if you're bringing a specific caterer from out of town.
Best for: couples who want the full Hill Country aesthetic (chapel plus barn plus river) without stitching together three separate venues. Book 14 to 18 months out for any Saturday in March through June or September through November.
Gruene Estate
A 13-acre historic estate right inside the Gruene historic district, a short walk from Gruene Hall and the Gristmill. Ceremony happens on a tree-lined lawn, reception in a restored carriage house with crystal chandeliers. Capacity tops out around 300 seated. The design leans refined-rustic, heavier on romantic and lighter on country, compared to Chandelier.
The walkability is the unique value here. Guests staying in Gruene can walk to the venue, and your reception after-party can spill into Gruene Hall or the Gristmill for late drinks without anyone driving.
On-site getting-ready suites for wedding party, bridal lounge with separate entrance, and climate-controlled rain plan. Preferred vendor list but not required. Best for: couples whose guest list loves Gruene as a destination and wants everything walkable.
The Chapel at Gruene
A small white chapel in the heart of the Gruene historic district, built in the style of the 1800s-era Texas country chapels. Seats about 120 guests at capacity. The ceremony venue of choice for couples planning an intimate or elopement-style wedding who still want the full Hill Country photo set.
Paired with one of the nearby reception venues (the pavilion at Rockin' R, the Gruene River Inn, or a private rental home), the chapel scales into a full wedding day without a resort-scale venue budget. Lots of couples do the ceremony here and then walk the whole wedding party the half-block to Gruene Hall for cocktails and dancing as the reception.
Best for: 50 to 120 guest weddings, elopements with a photography package, and couples who'd rather spend on food and photography than on a larger venue rental. Book 8 to 12 months out for preferred dates.
Knolls Crossing
A hillside venue on FM 306 between Gruene and Canyon Lake, with indoor and outdoor ceremony options, a reception hall with built-in furniture and in-house catering pantry, and Texas sunset views over the surrounding hills. On-site luxury suites hold the immediate wedding party the night of.
The geography is the selling point. You're a 10-minute drive from Gruene for the rehearsal dinner or after-party, and a 10-minute drive from Canyon Lake for a Sunday guest activity. Couples planning a full weekend with out-of-town guests use this venue specifically for that reason.
Indoor-outdoor flexibility means your rain plan is built in, which matters for any spring Texas wedding. Best for: couples who want a Hill Country setting close to Gruene but with more acreage and privacy than a venue inside the historic district. Book 10 to 14 months out for peak dates.
